From A Career Ceiling To A Self-Employed Career With Greater Control

Advisor success moment

The career stories featured throughout this page did not all begin in finance. They came from banking, F&B, HR and other professional backgrounds. Each wanted a career where effort could create greater income potential, more control over time and real ownership of what they built. At the live event, Brenda Lee and Lawrence Ee will share practical perspectives on how structured coaching and hands-on mentorship can help professionals explore a self-employed financial advisory career.

Real Career Transitions. Real Professional Growth.

From Brenda Lee

I Spent 13 Years Building A Respectable Banking Career. Then I Had To Admit It Was No Longer Building The Life I Wanted.

Brenda Lee

Dear Fellow Professional,

If you are reading this, there is a good chance your career looks better from the outside than it feels on the inside.

You do what a dependable professional is supposed to do. You arrive early, stay late, take on work above your pay grade and tell yourself the next appraisal will finally recognise it. Then the meeting comes, the raise is smaller than expected, or does not come at all, and you realise another year of your life has passed without your position meaningfully changing.

Meanwhile, your bills keep rising. Debt takes longer to clear. Savings grow too slowly. Plans with your partner or family keep being pushed back. You are working harder than ever, yet one unexpected expense can still make the month feel tight.

That is when the question becomes difficult to ignore: “If I keep doing exactly this for another five years, will my life actually look any different?”

The Moment I Realised A Good Job Was No Longer Enough

I spent 13 years across foreign exchange, corporate banking, institutional asset management, retail banking and wealth management. I had experience, responsibility and a career many people would consider secure.

But security began to feel like a ceiling. The relationships I built, the results I produced and the extra effort I gave all strengthened somebody else's business, while my income, time and progression still depended on decisions I did not control.

There was no dramatic walkout. Just an honest realisation: I could remain comfortable, capable and increasingly frustrated, or I could take responsibility for changing the direction of my career.

I Wanted A Career Change, But I Was Not Prepared To Gamble My Future

I did not want to resign impulsively, lose a stable income or leap into something I did not understand. I had financial goals and responsibilities. Any move had to be considered, structured and supported.

What I wanted was a safer way to explore self-employment: to understand the profession honestly, test whether it suited my strengths and learn from people who had already made the transition successfully.

Because when your income is controlled by a fixed salary, a delayed promotion or someone else's opinion of your value, your choices are limited too. You postpone clearing debt, delay plans with the people you love and stay in a role you have outgrown because leaving feels more dangerous than remaining unhappy.

The Difference Was Not Just The Opportunity. It Was The Mentors And The System Around It.

Financial advisory gave me a path where my effort, development and income potential could be more closely connected. But the career alone was not the whole answer. The difference was having experienced mentors, a clear development process and people who stayed involved beyond my first steps.

That support helped me move from over 13 years across banking, wealth management and financial advisory into a self-employed career. I achieved MDRT within three months in two consecutive years and qualified again within five months in 2026, before beginning to develop the next generation of advisers.

The work is not effortless, and this is not a promise of instant success. But I now have greater ownership over the value I create, the people I serve and the direction in which my career grows. For me, that made the change worth it.

Five Career Journeys. Two Live Speakers. One Development Platform.

Your Next Step Is Not To Quit Your Job. It Is To Get Clear.

At Suntec City, Lawrence and I will walk you through the profession, the transition pathway and the development platform that supported my journey. You will assess whether the career fits your strengths, hear selected career stories from people who entered from different industries and ask us your questions directly.

You do not need to arrive ready to resign or commit. Come with your questions. In 90 minutes, you can decide whether this deserves further exploration. Even if your answer is no, you should leave with more clarity about your career than you had before.

The hesitation moment

The Real Reason Capable People Stay In Careers They Have Outgrown

It is rarely a lack of ambition. They are afraid of making an expensive career mistake and cannot get clear answers to three questions.

  1. Can I explore this responsibly without quitting my job or risking my financial security?
  2. What does the work, income model and transition actually look like in real life?
  3. Will I receive genuine mentorship, and can somebody with my background realistically succeed?

You should not make a career decision from an advertisement. Use the 90 minutes on 28 July to get the facts, meet the people and decide whether a next conversation makes sense.

And This Is Where Real Mentorship Can Actually Change Your Career

Mentorship in action
  1. Structured development in your voice, coaching that meets you where you are, not a one-size-fits-all script.
  2. A guided career preview before you make any commitment, so you can experience the culture, hear directly from Brenda and Lawrence and decide with the facts in front of you.
  3. The Career Blueprint Session, one structured conversation that turns interest into a clear next step, with experienced mentors available to guide you rather than leaving you to figure it out alone.

The Same Development Platform. Different Professional Backgrounds.

Advisors on the development platform

Brenda, Toni and Sheena came from banking, F&B and HR. Their backgrounds were different, but the development principles were the same: structured coaching, clear next steps and mentors who stayed involved after the first conversation. The goal is not simply to recruit you. It is to help the right people build the skills, confidence and career ownership required to succeed in self-employment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where Is It And When? +

The Career Discovery Series is happening live in Singapore. Date: 28 July 2026 (Tuesday). Time: 7:30pm–9:00pm. This is a live, in-person event at Suntec City. There is no Zoom backup, no replay, and no recording sent after.

Is This Just A Pitch For A Bigger Programme? +

No. There may be an optional next step for people who want to go further, a private Career Blueprint Session, but you don't have to apply for anything. The evening is built to stand on its own, whether or not you ever continue.

Will This Work For My Specific Background? +

Our most successful advisers have come from banking, wealth management, HR, F&B, sales, corporate management and entrepreneurship. Age is less important than attitude, coachability and growth potential.

Do I Need Financial Or Sales Experience? +

No. Previous financial advisory experience is not essential, character and attitude matter far more.

I've Attended Recruitment Talks Before And Wasn't Convinced. Why Is This Different? +

Because we're not trying to convince everyone in the room. Not everyone who attends will be invited to join, that's intentional. We recruit broadly, select carefully, and develop intentionally.

What If I Can't Attend On The 28th? +

This is a live, in-person session with no replays. Reserve your seat now to secure your place, and contact us directly if your plans change.

Does It Cost Anything? +

No. The evening is completely free. This is a limited-capacity, in-person session, and registration closes when all places are allocated.

What Happens If I Attend And Decide It's Not For Me? +

Nothing happens. There's no obligation. That's actually a successful outcome for us too, our goal is to help you make the right decision, not just recruit numbers.

Who Will Actually Be In The Room? +

Brenda Lee and Lawrence Ee are the two speakers appearing live. The wider career profiles and recorded stories on this page provide additional examples from the development platform, but they should not be interpreted as additional live speakers.
